Looking at the concept of emergence and understanding it brings up a few ideas.

We do live in a social system that is also governed by rules. Even though those rules change depending on many factors and different rules apply to different cultures or parts of society within a culture some rules apply to all of us.

One of them is that we are social animals and all strive to be connected with other humans. If we now say that we need other humans to sustain a feeling of well being and happiness, I think we are pretty spot on and that this applies to the huge majority of humans.

Most ideas no matter how viral they are, expire at some point. Their momentum fades away. This can have a lot of different reasons, one of them is that people have nothing more to add to an idea and archive it instead of bringing it up and thinking about it again. This can often happen if people do not get new input about a certain idea and they already took the idea as far as they thought it was worth taking it in their own mind.

So to sustain a viral idea in our society, which is simply another system governed by many different rules, creating small clusters of people who think alike would help to keep the momentum. They could bounce different viewpoints and opinions about a certain idea back and forth and this would help to keep them engaged.

If I want to spread ideas that can benefit everyone I will have to facilitate the creation of such clusters and find a way to keep people engaged. It is like in the concept of emergence when a simple cluster of squares governed by rules can multiply and create new clusters or in the best case cluster guns which would be product evangelists in marketing speech. Whenever the whole movement comes to a stand still it is time to change the rules to rejuvenate the movement and add a new spark of life.

Just some thoughts…

If my marketing spending for the new project is too high…

- I did something wrong
- I will have to make my courses paid earlier

If I master social media marketing…

- I will still pay a lot on advertising but the big reach will be worth it
- I will keep spending and making minus until I have gained a big enough following before I offer paid stuff

To master social media marketing I have to…

– Show personality
– Put myself out there
– Constant updates, engaging users
– Creating a hub for people to meet others they like
– Some more stuff I forgot but that will be written down in one of my mindmaps

Thailand was great! But it’s simply the same thing over and over again. Not much variety and the cultural side of Bangkok is small to non existent in some areas I’m interested in. Even though this is probably not the biggest reason for my decision.

I’m 30 now and especially in the last two years I have done a lot of “growing up”. Plus I have a full beard now and smarter looking glasses so that gives me a +5 on wisdom (when I don’t dress up like a Taliban). I basically changed from “Get high and fuck mad b!tches yooo!” to “A more quiet quality evening with friends”. Even though the former can randomly happen from time to time and at those times it is still appreciated.

I also just want to settle down somewhere. Our house, even after 3 years, is still only partly furnished because we knew we would never stay here for a long time. When I visit friends like Mr. Jamaica / Kenia I see how well he furnished his home and I crave to have something similar (albeit in a pretty different style).

I also believe Germany is overall (except for the WEAATHERR!!!) the better country to live in for me and if I stick to my meditation practice I should overcome this craving of sunshine sometime soon! Hah! (Doubt this will happen this year )

Another big part of this decision is the best thing that ever happened to me and that was almost 6 years ago now and that is getting together with my beautiful little woman. If I die tomorrow I can say I had a good life and found true love. Before I got to know her, I didn’t even know such kind of love exists. When you can be truly yourself with each other, talk 100% openly about anything, understand each other, share the same core principles, have compassion with each other and respect each others freedom something like this can develop.

Being with her is great and this makes life even more relaxed and settled down.

The last major factor for my decision is my lifestyle. I gained 10 kg after moving from Australia to Thailand and my fitness level went from ok to sh!t. Even though I’m 5 kg down again Germany offers many more possibilities to live more healthy.

When we buy organic products here they are labeled organic but like with so many things in Thailand you can’t be sure how organic they really are.

I also love outdoor sports and running on a treadmill in a gym with air con doesn’t cut it! I love running outside, hiking and mountain biking. In Thailand people think you are poor, crazy, stupid or a mix of all three when they see you on a bike, walking or running when you could just take a taxi or motorbike. This shows in the whole infrastructure. Even though we moved out of downtown Bangkok to a nice quiet suburb three years ago, there are no small little tracks to go running or biking. Even if you go to the countryside or the mountains you wont find the variety of paths and trails you can find in western countries.

When I move back I will move right next to the mountains and still be able to get to a city (Munich) within one hour. My mum moved to this gorgeous little town last year and I spent several weeks there during my last summer holiday. It’s fantastic and I never thought living out there would be so much fun.

To have the mountains and so much nature right at your doorstep is amazing. We run our company remotely so we do not have to go to any workplace and have quite a bit of free time. Making most out of our time and doing lots of sport simply works better out there.

First I thought the major problem would be shopping, but online shopping absolutely nullifies this problem. I get my clothing from our tailors in Thailand anyway and for all other outdoor or technical products online shopping makes way more sense. Even buying the daily necessities like food and drinks is better out there. We have bigger supermarkets (compared to inner city Munich), several farmers who sell their produce directly within minutes, local fresh markets and by being just 10 minutes away from Austria another bit of more variety when it comes to grocery shopping.

All in all I’m really looking forward to my new start in good old Germany. Being closer to my best friends, living more healthy and enjoying more outdoor activities are all fantastic things. We also plan to get most of our furniture custom made so that is another fun thing I look forward to. We already drew concepts of some of the furniture we will get made and, like with so many things, my lovely woman and me have the same ideas of how our new place should look like.

I’m grateful for the time I had in Thailand and the quality people I got to know. I will definitely come back for extended periods of time but unlike in the last 5 years the roles will be reversed and instead of spending the summer each year in Germany, I might spend the winter in Thailand (or not because of snowboarding and my season ticket!).

While I write this site mostly for myself to keep track of what is / was going on in my life thank you for taking the time reading this. You are probably one of the quality people I got to know in my life or you sit in your office and its just so damn boring so you read this sh!t to waste some time. In this case… get back to work!

Countryside:

More nature / sport activities

Snowboarding!

No spontaneous meetings with friends (takes 1.5 hours to get downtown)

Less cultural variety

Cheaper

Downtown:

Friends!

Sport with friends?

Basically it comes down to being spontaneous or not. If I move to the countryside I got to plan ahead what I want to do. Shopping is the same (thanks to online shopping) I already realized this last year. If I really want to check something out I can do this without a problem so the “cultural variety” is still given but I just have to plan. Of course I won’t be able to go and eat Arab food just because I feel like it or some Sushi but I’m a food nazi now anyway so… probably I wouldn’t want to? Hmmm…

The huge benefit of living at the countryside is of course outdoor activities. Running through the nature or going hiking has been lots of fun last summer. During the winter time I would live basically next to a ski station so I could go snowboarding all the time!!!! Season ticket baby yeah!

So what about the grey, rainy, shitty days? I guess I would spend them inside anyway. I would meet my friends more often on those days. Make some music or something… yeah. But then again I could also just get a PS 3 and play some co op games with Mr. Below…

I usually see my friends like once or twice a week so going downtown for that wouldn’t be a problem. Hmmm…. also regarding my health the countryside makes more sense. So right now… its the countryside… yeah!

I just had this idea. When you get to the point that you are more and more aware of all the thoughts in your head you actually start to consider with what kind of thoughts you want to spend your time and if that makes sense. As a perfectionist (working on getting rid of this) I of course want to do everything as good as possible and also dont waste my time with thoughts that are rather unproductive.

It’s kinda funny these days… I have now more control over my thoughts and its easier to do things. I don’t slip away with my thoughts and jump from one idea to the next like I used to. Its pretty awesome to get to this “new level” of control. It makes life easier. The course will rock
